Sound as a Tool for Liberation

Info

For this workshop, we’re collaborating with Tiny Lungs (@tiny__lungs), an audio-first production house based in South London. From the Black Radical Tradition in Music to tonal Yoruba poetry and the sounds of pirate radio in 1980s London, we’ll explore black sonic practices throughout history, and learn to tune our ears to an image and embody sound in new and inventive ways.

Participants are encouraged to bring along one sound that represents liberation to them. They can bring this sound in the form of a photograph, moving image clip, piece of written work etc. Anything but the sound itself. Over the course of the workshop, we’ll be working together to capture these sounds and reconstruct them in tangible and experimental sonic contexts.

Absolutely no experience with sound? No problem! This is an introductory workshop; no equipment is required. Priority will be given to BIPOC participants although all are welcome.

Designed for first-timers and curious minds.
