Mattes and Multiple Exposures

Info

Inspired by the work of the late Tomonari Nishikawa, Mattes and Multiple Exposures explores in-camera multiple exposure techniques using retrofitted mattes in the Bolex filter slot. This technique can create complicated layouts and fragmented imagery using simple materials at a low cost. Throughout the day you will learn the origin of the technique, work with a new version using laser printers, and practice proper exposure and rewind process with the Bolex. Every workshop participant will leave with a collaborative reel of multiple exposure scenes.

Mattes and Multiple Exposures will be taught by Derrick Schultz, an experimental filmmaker based in Brooklyn. He has previously taught this course at Mono No Aware.

This workshop is open to everyone, no previous experience needed but knowledge of 16mm is preferred.
